How do I see how many calls my funeral home gets from Google Maps?

Quick answer
Open your Google Business Profile while signed in and select Performance, then choose a date range. The Calls figure is the number of times someone tapped the call button on your profile on Google Search or Maps. It counts taps, not conversations, so it can't tell you how many of those calls were answered. For that, compare it with your phone system's call log for the same dates.
Where do you find your calls from Google Maps?
Performance data is only available for verified profiles, and you need to be signed in to the Google account that manages yours.
On a computer, through Google Search:
- 1.Search for your funeral home's name, or go straight to your Business Profile.
- 2.Select Performance.
- 3.At the top, choose the time period you want, then Apply.
On a phone, in the Google Maps app:
- 1.Open Google Maps and tap Business at the bottom right.
- 2.Next to “Performance”, tap See more.
- 3.Choose the time period, then Apply.
If you manage more than one location, you can download performance data for several profiles at once from Business Profile Manager, to compare them side by side.
What does Google's calls number actually count?
Google defines Calls as the number of times a customer clicked the call button on your Business Profile. It includes activity from both unpaid results and Google Ads. That makes it a good measure of how often your profile prompts a family to reach for the phone.
It doesn't count:
- Families who found you on Maps, then dialed your number by hand or called from your website.
- Whether the call connected, was answered, or went to voicemail.
- How long the call lasted, or what it was about.
So the number can be lower than the real number of calls Maps sends you, and it says nothing about what happened when the phone rang.
How can you tell how many of those calls were answered?
Google can't show you that, but your phone system can. We call this the call-gap check, and it takes about ten minutes a month:
- 1.In your profile's Performance report, note the Calls figure for last month.
- 2.In your phone provider's call log or reports, find answered and unanswered calls for the same dates.
- 3.Look at when the unanswered calls came in: evenings, weekends, or during services.
- 4.Check how many of those callers were ever called back, and how soon.
The pattern in step 3 is usually the useful part. If most unanswered calls arrive after hours or while your team is with a family, that's a staffing gap, not a marketing one. The missed call calculator turns your numbers into a month and a year.
What else does the Performance report show?
| Metric | What Google counts | What it tells a funeral home |
|---|---|---|
| Calls | Taps on the call button on your profile | How often your profile prompts a call |
| Directions | Requests for directions to your location | Families planning a visit |
| Website clicks | Clicks on your website link | Families wanting more detail first |
| Views | People who viewed your profile on Search and Maps | How many families saw you at all |
| Searches | The search terms that showed your profile | Whether families find you by name or by “funeral home” |
The Searches list is worth a close look. If nearly every term is your own name, families who don't already know you may not be finding you. Why a funeral home only shows up on its exact name explains what to do.
Should a funeral home use a call-tracking number on Google?
You can track calls more precisely with a dedicated number, but Google's rules for the phone number on your profile still apply. The number must connect to your individual location and be under your funeral home's direct control. Google asks for a local number rather than a central call-center line wherever possible, and it doesn't allow numbers that refer callers to any number other than the business's own.
Whatever number you use, keep it identical on your website and directory listings, so Google sees one consistent funeral home.
What should you do with the number?
Watch the trend, not a single month. Calls rising after you've improved your profile is a good sign. Calls holding steady while unanswered calls rise is the gap that matters most, because each one was a family who reached a ringing phone or voicemail. If calls are low compared with profile views, see why families find you but don't call.

Why is my Google Business Profile calls number lower than the calls we get?
Google only counts taps on the call button on your profile. Families who dial your number by hand, call from your website, or found you another way aren't included.
Does the calls number include calls from Google Ads?
Yes. Google says performance data includes activity from both unpaid results and Google Ads.
Can Google show which calls we missed?
No. The Calls metric counts taps on the call button, not whether calls were answered. Your phone provider's call log shows answered and unanswered calls.
Why can't I see performance data for my funeral home?
Performance data is only available for verified profiles, and you need to be signed in to the Google account that manages the profile.
